There are times in the humdrum of life when we want to get away from it all to recoup our energy and pamper our senses, when the sight of snow-capped Himalayas is enough to lift our weary spirit. At times like these, Kaafal cottage, overlooking Majkhali in Ranikhet, provides you the ideal getaway. Your home away from home, it provides a glimpse into the Kumaoni culture. From the ‘aipan’ on the steps to the brass and copper vessels used in traditional Kumaoni homes, it gives you an experience of the Kumaoni way of life.
Kaafal cottage derives its name from the Bayberry trees surrounding it. The trees bear the raspberry-like fruits in April-May. Typically, the ripe berries are eaten mixed with a little rock salt. A forest of Baanj (Oak), Chir (Pine) and Deodar (Cedar) trees overlooks the cottage and provides a serene haven for leisurely strolls.
While Kaafal cottage provides you every facility for a comfortable stay, it is not your regular starred resort. Our philosophy is different- we do not believe in isolated tourism. We believe when you visit a place, you should carry back some spirit of the place.
We are a bunch of Kumaonis passionate about showcasing and preserving the Kumaoni culture. Having moved out decades ago in search of jobs, Kaafal cottage is our attempt to reconnect with our roots. We wish to promote our art, culture and heritage. In the future, we hope to develop it into a destination for the connoisseur of arts.
